Need help with Metal framing to ceiling attachment
Hello,
I am finishing out a basement and will be building the non load bearing partitions with steel studs. I am running 7/8 hat channel on sound isolation clips attached to the open web floor trusses above. My question is should I run the hat channel first along the entire ceiling surface then attach the top plate of the metal stud walls to the hat channel or build the walls and attach them directly to the to the trusses above then install the hat channel seperatley in each room?
It seems that running all the hat channel first would keep all of the structure downstairs isolated from movement and noise better, but then this is my first basement project. Thanks for your input.

Drywall the entire ceiling first then install the top channel by screwing it to the ceiling.
That is a great idea but I don't think that is an option because I can't get n inspection for closing up the ceiling or walls until all the walls and mechanicals are in place and pass inspection.
Work with the inspector. Rocking the ceiling before framing steel frame non bearing walls is standard practice and one of the big advantages of steel framing.
