Need help with new front porch and grading on old house
I have been rehabbing a 1950’s house in Nashville that basically had been handyman clooged for 70 years. The house really was a tear down but my GC at the time thought he’d hammer things out for nothing, well I still have problems 170k later. The latest issues was new concrete patio porch I had poured but when I saw in person found the base was higher than the siding! I had a landscaper say he had to backfill up to the stone base and I said I can’t put dirt on the siding! There is an old cinder block foundation for the porch (not same size as the new one I poured double width) which is maybe 4 or 5 inches below the house foundation. There was an old slab there and then another slab poured on top of that bringing it up higher. For some reason the new guy (who tore out both the old slabs supposedly) had installed the porch even higher than the two old slabs combined!
Where should the porch line up on the house? I want to tear out all the cement and properly grade the yard too since I get lots of water in the basement. I read the IRC says minimum 6″ dirt level from siding and then 6″ slope away from house the next 10 ft. That said, if I grade that steep (6″ over the length of the porch) won’t the front of the porch base be exposed also?
Any help is appreciated! Nobody seems to know how to make this right!

Set the short side of your saw on the concrete and saw the siding off. that will give you a 1 1/2" gap between the porch and siding which will be fine in a protected space. Or saw right under the bottom edge of the 2nd piece of siding and replace it with PVC trim.
