Ryan,
I do the same as you…. clean the oil-fired furnace each year, and had the same experience with the liner deteriorating. I found a new one at my local plumbing and heating supplier. I think the cost was around $30. They are pretty generic, just take a measurement of your firebox so you are in the right ball park on size. Follow the instructions. It came in wet flexible sheets that you trim to size. Simply press on and form fit by hand, sort of like paper mache’. When you fire the furnace back up, it hardens and sticks. Good luck…..

I'm getting my oil fired baseboard heating system ready for the winter. Every year I clean it myself and this year, Ive found a problem.
There's a missing section of that fiberglass/asbestos/rockwool liner inside the fire box. This missing section is right were the oil burner flame would hit the back wall of the fire chamber.
My question is, can I buy this stuff and replace the bad piece or is my heater shot? If I can buy it, where?, what's it called?, and how do I "glue" it to the cast iron walls of the fire chamber?
*Just pushing this back to the top. Hoping somebody's smarter than I am.
*Ryan - I think your best bet would be :http://www.heatinghelp.comI think the guys over there are more likely to know the answer to this one.
