Need New Tablesaw, Finish gun, and Laser

crazycorms | Posted in Tools for Home Building on September 19, 2007 04:05am

I need advice on a couple of new tools we need to purchase.  First, we are looking into buying a new portable tablesaw with a stand, etc.  Secondly, we need a cordless angled finish nailer, Paslode or Dewalt?  Thirdly, a Rotary laser would make life much easier.  Seriously considering the Dewalt laser and finish gun because we already use 18Volt Dewalt combo kit.  Western Tool Supply highly recommended a Bosch tablesaw.  Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I've got a Bosch table saw, Paslode cordless 16ga nailer, and a PLS2 laser (180°, not rotary).

I'm very happy with them all, but if I was starting fresh, I would seriously consider the Ridgid jobsite tablesaw, the Dewalt cordless nailer, and the PLS rotary laser.

Ridgid Table saw is a very fine saw...I've used it lots in the past....

But I would not take it over the Bosch. I have the Bosch with old folding stand and I like that set up better. much easier in and out of van and up stairs etc..yes two trips...but still easier. The Ridgid and Bosch wheeled stand are nice one you get em on the ground, but the add to much overall weight IMO.    View Image                                          View Image

Good point about the weight.  I got the Ridgid mitersaw SUV for my nice light Hitachi 10" saw, which turned into a beheamouth.  But I really like wheels.

See, I have this problem, I like to carry things with one hand.  Plywood, mitersaws, my Dewalt planer, my Bosch tablesaw.  Can't stand carrying things with two hands out in front of me.  Not exactly good on the ol' back.  So I am trying to convert things to wheels.  Easier than changing habits, you know?

I have a type 1A 40' ladder that I've figured out how to carry one handed.  I rest it in the crook of my arm.  I need some wheels for that thing.

Last weekend I picked up my old 8" Makita saw and Rousseau table.  Think I'll use that for a while, ween myself off the Bosch.  It's easier to carry one handed.

yeah wheels are absolutley great when you can use em. most of the time it's great. I remember the Ridgid saw we always needed two guys to get down outta the van.

Job we're on now we gotta climb a short mountain goat type hill that you have to carry the stuff. it was a nightmare even with two guys getting my partners Bosch up there with his wheeled stand. one guy could manage my Bosch without too much trouble. we did get talking about the new smaller sized Dewalt that's on the market now, though.   View Image                                          View Image

It's funny what's old is new again.  That Dewalt looks like a modern version of the old Makita 8".

I do kind of like "Mighty Mike" though.  Can I use the Mighty Mouse theme song?  Heere I come to save the daaaay....

      Thank You,

I am hesitant to buy any Rigid tools other than a Wet/Dry vac.  Simply because of the name.  The Dewalt gun seems heavy and I am also wondering if the same porter cable I use will work.

I like the new Dewalt portable saw (lightweight), but if you rip big sheets get the bosch. I have the Dewalt finisher nailer... great tool, only negative is weight. Dewalt is going to be coming out with a Brad Nailer shortly (looks just like the finish nailer).

On lasers I have no clue... read a lot of good things about the PLS.

The new psl 180 is pretty impressive. Going to get one soon.

as for lasers depends what you will be using it for. for inside work consider the Johnson in following thread.
