I have about 32 feet of soapstone counters to fabricate and would like to get a pluge router for the outlet cuts in the splash, and also I need one.
I’m partial to Bosch and have seen the deals on Porter cable and so on.
The 3 hp Hitachi at $159 seems too cheap or too good to be true
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Rupert

i've had the 3 hp hitachi for a year or so, minor problems with plunge mechanism, needs regular lubes, other than that, smooth, powerful, and trouble free
caulking is not a piece of trim
we got the Makita...RP 1101 (2 1/4 hp ) about $240
here's Scott building his cedar doors... and then using it to rout the deck lites in some 5/4 Ipe'

Have two PC's, a Mak, a Milwaukee, and a Bosch. Prefer the Bosch. Won't ever buy another PC. The plunge mechanism stinks. It is not reliable (moves in operation - lack of adequate clamping pressure). Maybe I got a lemon. Who knows. But that's the kind of thing that kills your taste for something.

Bosch all the way. Smoothest plunge. good ergonomics. Get variable electronic speed. Maintans constant speed and gives you soft start. Get a vacume shroud, that soapstone is going to throw alot of fine dust.
Anybody mention Bosh to you yet.
I have several PC's. They collect dust.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Bosch it is.............Thanks for your help !

I have a Hitachi Plunge router that is the predecessor to that one.
No var. speed or soft start but basically the same machine
Been using it in a router table and such for almost 15 years.
Now that I type this it makes me think I want to get another.
Or 2 or 3...
Also makes me think that Hitachi might be coming out with a new model the one newer than mine is at lest 10 years old.
Hitachi makes good stuff.
I like to think of them as the Toyota of tools, Good solid value.
