I’m about to have my roof reshingled and am taking the opportunity to install a Pella venting skylight over the stairwell to provide light in it and part of the adjoining kitchen. Rough opening is 191/4″ X 3′ 11″ and will be 18″ from the side of the chimney. Pella says that’s OK. It will be 3 feet down from roof peak. Because I want to center it over the stairs I will have to cut into one of the truss joists and have obtained a specification and drawings on how to beef up/gusset the adjoining trusses and how to gusset above and below the opening in the one I cut plus framing in the rough openng, by a certified engineer that meets with local buiding inspector approval. Roof is sheathed with 2X 6″ planks instead of plywood. I plan to angle the well to further distribute light. Position is south facing.
Anything I’ve forgotten or should be aware of? All tips and suggestions are welcomed!

10 - 12' and other side of roof. Thanks for the thought.
Sounds like you did more homework than most people. Only suggestion I have is when you install the skylight. I'm not familiar with Pella's system but if it's like many major brands it has a curb and flashing kit. After you peel back the shingles and set the curb, install waterproof shingle underlayment (12" to 18" strips) along the bottom, sides and top. Extend the pieces about 6" to 8" beyond adjacent edges and cut 'ears' that fold down. Start at bottom and have the lower edge of the WSU overlap the top lap of the shingle course beneath. Then install the sides, then the top. Cut tar paper above head of curb and slip the WSU beneath. Just think 'positive drainage' all along the way and you'll have leakproof backup for the metal flashing.

Actually there'll be no need to peel back shingles since I'm coordinating this with a reroof job but thanks for the input and I'll make sure that we follow your excellent sugestion.
you will also have a vapor barrier which cuts down on convection condensation
