I’ve got an acrylic tub to install that was ordered without flange. What’s the best way to install that will assure no leaks? Do I need to add flange “after the fact”-what’s the best way?Give me your sage advice please…

Sometimes they sell retro fit flanges... there really arent to many choices other then using 100% silicone packed well under the tile wall....or bend some vinyl coil in a sort of "L",,,,,,,the long end behind the tile and a drop sticking out flush with the tile.or just use the tub faucet..lol

Thanks for your response. What is vinyl coil?.Can I glue it to the tub to assure more of a seal?

Laura....sorry.spose I shouldnt assume everyone knows what coil is. Its what us builders buy in rolls 25' long. They sell at siding suppy houses "already bent" pieces of coil as I suggested. Just go and explain your issue and I'm sure they'll sell you 8 footers that you can cut to size. Its really simple actually. If you need to know more see my website below for my phone number and I'd be happy to explain in more detail and even call your local siding supply house for you if you get me the number You wouldnt need to silicone the coil down but could if you feel it'll help you sleep better....If you guys are splashing around that much then...........yeeee ha...ok silicone the short side of the " L" to the tub.

Install the tub before the tile board and use hardi board its totally waterproof. Set the board to fit on top of the tub but no weight on the tub. Silicon the small gap. Tile the walls leaving small gap to the tub (1/8") is fine. before grouting seal the gap with 100% silicon. Let cure for 48 hours. grout and clean up. 48 hours later enjoy the new shower.
I agree with the suggestions that the others have made except to qualify that none of them will "assure no leaks". If this is your own house, be sure to keep an eye on the caulking - any black stuff or other discoloration can mean that the bond has failed. If this is a client project (caveat emptor!), I would be careful to stipulate that the performance of the system is totally reliant upon caulking, which is not a great comfort. Caulks fail.
IMHO, this type of tub is not meant for shower usage.
