I woke up at 5:00AM this morning and spent an hour and a half painting my bedroom. Now I’m not a professional at least anymore. I did have a painting business in the 60s and 70s and have painted on and off since then. Well yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought 2 gallons of Glidden paint and had it mixed by a very competant young man. He recommended Behr but I’ve been down that road and think it stinks. I have used Glidden throughout my house and never had a problem. This is the first time I bought Glidden from Home Depot. The first thing I noticed was it took about a gallon to cover 225 Sq. Feet. Ok, so I’m old and put it on too thick, then it dried and it needs another coat. Finally it dawns on me- this stuff is slop- My motto has always been “I’m not good enough to use cheap paint” and this stuff was 22 bucks a gallon and the best they had. Now I’m faced with going to my old Glidden store and getting two more gallons of my usual paint for 20 bucks a gallon. I have heard all the stories about cheaper name brand products at Home Depot Now I’m wondering about my HD John Deere. Thanks, Rich

JD is a cheap brand with pretty paint - No wonder you had problems.

BTW - Break your posts up into paragraphs and they'll be a lot more readable.
Thanks for your input. If I needed a lesson in paragraph construction I would have gone to Fine Literature not fine Homebuilding.
Whoa, fella. You need to read your own thread title. 2 posts and you're getting an attitude here ? My friend is right, to make your posts more readable, you need to break them into paragraphs.
Oh, and my friend BossHog is one of the more prolific posters here, been around about ten years. He's a fantastic resource and very helpful to anyone who asks for help.
Cool down.

We ned big spaces bwteen hour words for reed-a-billy-tee.
Welcome to BT Rich. I have tried the Walmart paint on rentals trying to save money and I always come back to " It would have been cheaper in the long run to use Sherwin Williams paint.
It's OK to vent.
But don't make Boss Hog mad, he handles bulls just for fun.

I thought this was going to be a thread about air conditioning!Alas, it's about attitude. LOL.When you're in an Italian Restaurant you don't order the Greek dish...
And, generally, I go to paint stores to get paint. (After I've checked here and other places so I know whats good, and not so good)Jake Gulick

you just wanna spout off or do you want to communicate?white space makes for better communication because it makes the post more readable.I never had any good luck with Glidden either. If you gave it to me, I might mix it with mud for SR texture.get SW or BM for a good paint, IMO

I have never had good luck with glidden paint. When I have used it it seemed very thick and didn't cover well.
I try to stick with sherwin williams or from a box store - Valspar.
Dont borrow trouble, I think the JD will be ok. As long as it gets the grass mowed, right?

Must be Green paint seems to make hardware deteriorate.
My JD tractors are yeller and run ok.
As far a paint brands, they are all OK to me as long as they are free.
Did hear tell the county wastemobile here will no longer put even latex paint in the free recycle store.
Too bad, have not paid for paint in close to 30 years. Will need to watch the garage sales.
Have used all kinds of brands, by far the best I've used is Parker.
The BMSxxx-yy surplus airplane paint was good too, but that cost $1 a gallon and the surplus store, and it closed last year besides.
Scored a couple of gallons of a VERY heavy (like 20 pounds per gallon!) oil based paint called 'Galvacon' about 10 years ago. Painted metal truck bed with it then, still holding up, no rust, does work just like a galvanizing coating.
Never considered Glidden products to be that good, no matter where you buy them.

........... same L series as the L series sold in JD dealers- no difference but .......... they're made in a different factory than the other JD lawn tractors (X series) which are made in Horicon,WI and sold only at JD dealerships. Less of a tractor than the X series but then so is the price.

I use Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. Nothing else. You should too, then you wouldn't be wasting your time here.
rich03,
HD JD's are not true JD's. Just like the green Poulan saws in Lowes, the good ones are yellow , 'course the yellow ones cost more. Same is true for JD.

Hey rich you ol' coot : ) welcome to Taunton's house of BreakTime. Don't let these baboons get to ya....they've gone at it themselves a time or twenty. I hear a few of em' even have gotten thrown off the board here.
I found that the only "decent" paint at HD is ...ugh...I don't wanna even say it...uhhh...well...Ralph Lauren paint. There....I said it and I think it's even gone down in price from what it used to be there but if I'm gonna buy RL I'd rather spend my money on Benny Moore my choice of liquid wall covering. and if ya REALLY have dough to burn try Benny Moore's Aura paint at fifty bucks a gallon (ish). Actually...it's almost worth it but I have a hard time spendin' that kinda scratch on liquid wall covering.
Behr I find to be one of the worst personally. and Glidden.......hey wait a minute...I'd rather talk about neekid chicks.....lol. Thursday night after work and I'm talkin' paint??? Get a life Andy...ugh
