Just want to bounce a few ideas off of some folks …. unorthodox they may be, but I’m quite ‘on the level,’ and would like some civil feedback.
My long-time business partner wishes to retire – leaving me to run the entire show. (I don’t understand why – he’s only 69, and collecting two pensions now) 😀 Since he has handled the ‘business’ end, I have to now consider things I had never before considered.
The first is pricing a service call. I am toying with the idea of getting a taxi meter …. I figure, I turn it on when I leave for the call, turn it off when I write the invoice. You can get them programmed for whatever you want … I was thinking my shop rate/hr, tax allowance for mileage, and minimum charge for the ‘drop.’ Any thoughts?
The second is … where to find help. I do electric work – a stable mind, an ability to deal with (sometimes) cranky folks, and the agility to climb ladders and crawl attics are basic ‘starting points.’ The thought has occurred to me that older dancers (of any variety) might have all these attributes – and welcome a ‘real’ job with a future. Again- what do you think?

Don't know about the taxi meter.
For roof repair type service calls I charge two hours equivalent just to show up and the HO gets one hour of work from one guy for that amount. Additional time is charged by the half hour rounded up.
