new bosch Jig saw

ClaysWorld | Posted in Tools for Home Building on April 13, 2004 07:37am

I saw the first new jig saw, like 6. amp or? but the thing that got me is it looked like at least 20% bigger overall. I was suprised.

Cuts nice. That blade guide system seems to have paid off. Now I got one with a flat foot and one with a collins. No more allen wrench search five times a day.

Is it true that the coping foot won't fit on the new Bosch?

    2. CAGIV | Apr 14, 2004 02:22am | #5

is the new one offered in the barrel grip, I've been looking for an excuse to replace mine, was leaning festool after the reviews it got, but 150 sure sounds a site better then 250 for the bosch vs festool.

      1. RW | Apr 15, 2004 01:53am | #8

You know, I don't think it is in a barrel grip. I didn't see one there. Just top handle. It wouldn't surprise me if the collins foot didn't fit the new saw. It's bigger, and the base is not the same size as the old one - considerably bigger. But CAG, if you got the sack to buy a Festo, I got one of those Rotex sanders. Man oh man oh man. You'll never go back. Yeah, you pay up front, but they got some seriously good product. If I didn't already have two of everything, I'd get one of everything they made."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain

        1. CAGIV | Apr 15, 2004 05:31am | #9

RW, that's what I'm worrying about... if I get a festool jigsaw, then I might like so much I'll "need" to start replacing other tools with there stuff... could get real expensive real quick...

250 for a jigsaw seems steep, but 250 for any other power tool doesn't bother me, so I could justify the tool price I'm really worried about the fact I might start wanting more of their tools ;)

          1. RW | Apr 16, 2004 12:51am | #10

Want justification? Good tools make for better work. They're easier to work with, some might even say a joy. That makes you happier, that makes you do better work. Better output = better income. It'll pay for itself in short order.

That ought to do the trick. Tell me how you like the new jigsaw."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain

          2. CAGIV | Apr 16, 2004 01:44am | #11

            BASTARD!

now I just gotta order it...

what I'd really like is there circ saw with the guide system, their vac, maybe their router and and and and...

but for now the jigsaw will have to sufice, being single is great, I guess all this ends the day I walk down the aisle and have to support someone else too?

HEY! there's another reason, mind as well buy the stuff while I can!

It doesn't end bud.....it never ends.  Just gets twice as expensive cuz you gotta buy her something everytime the UPS guy shows up with a Tool Crib box.

          4. CAGIV | Apr 16, 2004 02:08am | #13

not if she doesn't know the UPS guy showed up... I have my stuff sent to work, I'm never home anyway and this way she don't need to know.

but you work out of your house...

            you're hosed...

            get a po box.

yes they do make the new bosch in a barrel grip, saw it in the instruction manual

          6. CAGIV | Apr 16, 2004 05:52am | #15

thanks, I'll have to look around for it

          7. mitch | Apr 16, 2004 03:35pm | #16

they were talking about it next door- supposedly the barrel grip should be out next month or so as the '1591'.  saw the d-handle model in hd a couple days ago.  sure was tempting.

Yeah, got the vac with the sander. No brainer. Holy suction, batman. Good stuff. And quiet. My farts make more noise.

I've been espousing the benefits of the line to a friend who installs a lot of flooring, i.e Pergo - he wants the saw too. Mmmmm."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain

          9. CAGIV | Apr 17, 2004 01:02am | #18

I hate the loud shop vac I have so replacing it is a no brainer, on the other hand I was doing the final clean up in this bath I just wrapped up, the customer was impressed how much cleaning I was doing, and said she never loved the sound of a vac before

          10. RW | Apr 17, 2004 01:55am | #19

Hmm. Get 2. I wouldn't suck up your average jobsite gunk with this vac. I haul two with me. One is a great big Craftsman (yeah, we all have them, we all love/hate them) and it's reliable like a WWII battleship. Plaster, concrete, dirt, dust, small children. I leave the Festo on tools - helps to keep the haze out of the air. And does good on most of them so far. Not the saw, but you can't win them all.

Just got off the phone with them. Ordered up more sandpaper and a box to hold all the gadgets I'm getting. "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain

          11. CAGIV | Apr 17, 2004 07:06am | #20

My old crapsman vac is gone, died when it got hit/run over by the dump truck, I have a POS shopvac brand that works ok when it feels like it, the bosch vac looks good, I suspect Imerc will be around shortly to tell me I better buy one of those.

but now I'm thinking my "tool" money would be better spent on other things... unclesams refund came today, I can feel my pockets starting to burn a bit ;)

            Nope... Not Bosch...

Reliant...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming....                                        WOW!!!   What a Ride!

I borrowed a Bosch from a builder  to clean up with and it was LOUD. Love most of their stuff but I  sure like quiet tools. Loud music and nail guns have already done enough damage-I want to keep the hearing that I have left.

            The Reliant is very quiet.

Got painted bumpers on the truck now. It took off all the chrome...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming....                                        WOW!!!   What a Ride!

i have a big shopvac that was more bark than bite until i put a goretex 'cleanstream' filter in it-  A HUGE IMPROVEMENT!  it sucks way better (and that don't suck), it doesn't clog anywhere near as fast and doesn't spew a volcano of crap out the top every time i switch it on either.  best $30 i ever spent on a vac accessory.

ps- also have a fein turbo II for use with tools that i really like.

I was suprised that with such an overhaul, they didn't add a light.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think a light shining on the blade would be nice.  Know someone is making them, Makita?

Just wondering what people thought of lights on jigsaws or tools in general.

    1. ANDYSZ2 | Apr 14, 2004 03:29pm | #7

I had to cut 3 9' arches yesterday in wet cedar and I was thinking the same thing "sure would be nice to have a light" I think I will buy one of those l.e.d.lights as small as I kind find and rig up something.

ANDYSZ2I MAY DISAGREE WITH WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT I WILL DEFEND TO THE DEATH YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT.
