I went in and bought a Stihl chain and it cuts much better. $35 though for a 16″ bar.
I’ve had this saw for 20 years and it’s never cut right. So it sat while I used a small gas Stihl.
I like it because it is electric. It’s good for small stuff near a plug. Up in trees it works well because I can just pull a trigger.
It’s a Milwaukee. Not sure why the chain never worked.

Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, but any chance the chain was on backwards?

For 20 years? I may be stupid at times but I like to think I can fix most of my mistakes.
From what I understand some American manufacturers have been finding parts form all over the place. Sticking them on their product and calling it theirs.
But sometimes they get a part that just doesn't fit or work. But they still stick it on.
That's what I think was going on with this chain.
I wouldn't buy a Milwaukee chainsaw again. That's why I bought a Stihl.
Stihl does make the best chain. Most electrics come with fairly non-agressive chain with high depth gauges to lessen the risk of kickback, so maybe that was the problem.
I agree about the handiness of small electric saws... the big gas ones have their place but so do the "Sunday Logger Specials".
