Hi Guys, I have to show-off the deck project that I’ve been picking away at for the last three months (eves/weekends) and finally have (alomost) complete. It has PT framing, Trex decking, and lots of curves. I used Azek for the trim, which came out great. My goal was to have it not look like a traditional “deck” hanging off the back of the house. Did I succeed? It was also intended to fit the existing landscaping, including mimicking the circular brick patio. It got pretty complicated, with the curved stair the hardest part, followed by the intricate framing required for the bulkead hatch(we won’t need it much, but I didn’t want to eliminate access in case the furnace explodes and we have to get a new one down there. As you can see, the dogs love it!

Looks great! The best part of it is that it does not look like a generic deck, really like the curves.
Good job

Yeah, you did succeed. I admit, I didn't read all of your message at first, I went straight for the pictures.
My thought was, "nice, the stairs echo the brick patio's curves." Then I read that was one of the things you were trying to accomplish. :)
Was there any math involved in determining the curve of the stairs relative to the patio, or was it just by eye?
While being very pretty, are there any safety concerns with walking down concave stairs in the dark?
I plan to put some sort of hand rail on them. I had some concerns about the practicality, too, but actually, they are quite comfortable. I put a post in at the center of the patio, then used a 2x4 to trace the concentric radii out from that.

The other area I need to address is gutters. The house has big overhangs/no gutters. With the deck there now I'm concerned about splash-up./icing in winter. Here's a picture of roof edge, with crown moulding. Any idea on how to best attach gutters to this?
steve , your deck looks great..
for gutters , if you want to spend some bucks... use a half-round copper with roof hangers and center bars..
or .. a nice heavy gage aluminum in matching green... again, with roof hangers Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Looks good, I like the simple lines. Has class.

Yup.. Now come and do mine....
