New dust collector- you want how much?
Things have been pretty slow around here. I’ve been saying that there would be a new dust collection system for awhile now and but just didn’t have the time to do it. Well now I have plenty of time, so I opened my mouth before checking the price and said -now is the time.
I called 3 companies to get quotes and only one bothered to give a bid. Two would only give list prices over the phone, order what you need and they’d install it, price to be determined after. The one that bothered to give a bid charges $120/hr for design, install, etc. and I thought we were in a recession.
I bought a used collector and felt pretty good about things until I ordered the pipe. The price of steel has really dropped but I guess nobody told these guys. I’m in with both feet so no stopping now, but by the time I’m done it will still be over $5k… Wish I’d checked things out more first, now is not really the time to spend extra cash.

Nearly have the machine room finished. Hope to have the smaller room done next week.
Boy!!!!! Am I jealous. That looks like a really nice shop. I think you will be really happy with the dust collection. It's ALOT of money but think of the time you'll save from having to clean so much unhealthy dust.
All the machine stuff says you're into production cabinets but then in the last photo you've got what appears to be an extensive collection of bench and molding planes. So... what are you into?Your shop is big! Get some roller blades.
My approach is perhaps a little different. Rather than work solo out of smaller shop I built a larger one, made work stations and rented those out to guys. That explains the wider assortment of tools and keeps the overhead in line. What I used do is upper end finish carpentry and stairs. What I'm moving toward is strictly stair work.I use a fair amount of handtools on a regular bases, also an approach which seems to be a little different :)
