Replacing the wood screens and floor of an enclosed patio. Jackhammered out the old flagstone and 2” of concrete to find that there is another 3” slab of reinforced concrete on half the patio which is likely the original patio. Home is 50 yrs old and think the enclosed patio was built in the 1980’s.
The original slab comes up to the house and sits halfway up on the rim joist from what I can tell and I don’t see any metal flashing. I am planning to see if I can use a concrete saw and remove this slab, replace any rotted wood and put in metal flashing at least 3 inches below foundation wall.
I would then install tech bloc blu slabs on top of a bed of gravel and sand instead of new concrete. Any concerns with a gravel bed on an enclosed patio that is attached to a house?
