New metal roof and gutters less than a year ago. 

Gutters leaked at ends
. Just looking at them you could see the gutters were approx. 1/2 “ short.
Contractor had the subcontractor that installed the gutters come back and replace the gutters.

The new gutters don’ t resemble the previous gutters.

I do not know the reasoning with the piece sticking out on the back edge. 
Have not ever noticed this on any other gutters  

please advise if this is normal
