Hi all,
I have been a reader for a few month and stuck in my two cents every now and again but never told my story.
I am currently working as an “Architect” doing residential remodels and new construction in the Metro Detroit area. I say “Architect” because I have a degree in Facility Management and Architectural Technology but not in Architecture. I’m not registered and I don’t plan on getting registered. I do 30 or 40 homes a year from a 2 car garage to 12,000 s.f. single family home to milti-family residential.
I have always done small remodel projects for friends and family, the occasional furniture piece and other odds on the side. About 2 years ago I built my 1600 s.f. colonial house from the ground up. I did all the flat work, framing, siding, wiring, roofing, insulation, finish plumbing and interior trim. I had a few friends that had some free time help with the heavy lifting and things but I did almost everything my self. After that I got the bug to start doing this for a living. I have since got my builders licence and done a few more odds and ends but I haven’t got the nerve to quit my day job.
I have really enjoyed the stories and photo’s from everyone and I hope I can start adding my own projects for comments soon.
Thanks,
Robin Ballew

Greetings, Robin
Where in the Metro Detroit area are you, and where did you get your F.M. degree from?
The office is in Troy. Most of my stuff is in Birmingham, Royal Oak, and north. I got my FM from Ferris.
Know the area well. My wife is from Troy, and I worked a couple of years as an engineer for a paving company out of Farmington Hills. I also graduated from Ferris through the Construction Management / Civil Engineering Tech program.
Again, welcome!
Always glad to have a new face around.
Stick around a while, and you're guaranteed to learn a great deal.
A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: "A beer please, and one for the road."
Howdy.
Try not to take vityrolic comments about archy's too personally--it's just reflex from being burnt one to many times for some <g> (besides, you can usually start the rant off in another direction by just discussing the merits of HO as GC . . . <g>
It's a half-safe time to intorduce yourself, too, a number of the "usual suspects" are gathered in Rhode Island. If you look under Fests, there's even some pictures of the people you don't know yet . . .
Welcome!
Remember dues must be paid by the 1st Thursday of every month.
So it's you that has the collections covered on 1st Thursday.. I'll take the 2nd Thursday..
I might have missed it but did anyone remind Robin that his report / opinions on Piffen Screws, venting, felt, Tyveck and his profile needs to be filled and submitted in triplicate at least by yesterday at latest???
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!

Don't forget mole/squirrel/mouse control; the beast on Luka's trailer; and at least one opinion on troll control and how to cope with a nighttime GC neighbor . . . Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
And reinforced mailboxes.
Robin said the check is in the maill....
Oh-oh... He hasn't learned the monetary system....
wonder what the conversion rate is...
