Wandering through Lowes yesterday, saw a new magazine on the end cap of the checkout. Cover looks interesting so I went for a closer look. FHB “Projects”. It’s a best-of-FHB pub with articles on tiling a counter, painting, installing crown, etc. Laid out just like the big boy, even has a short Breaktime section (but no Piffin so it’s no good).
It says that it’s a newstand-only pub, apparently tryting to lure readers to the real thing. Nicely done. The paper is a little different … not slick like the FHB. Even has a short story inside the back cover.
I’m sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

What did the story say?
Tim ... which story? The back cover? It is "Pink bathroom syndrome" by Jim Parker. I remember reading it in another issue ... about plans to make simple changes to a bathroom, then getting carried away ... and finally renovating the whole thing bnecause it was 50's pink.
Don't forget ... the exact title is "The best of FHB, Projects around thge house" so everything is a reprint. But ... it's a neat idea ... like a primer for diy HO who need ideas for things to do to the castle. It looks just like a regular FHB ... same size, aboput 100 pages ... a littlew fewer ads ... but obviously intended to whet appetites for more info.
The table of contents includes:
Improve kitchen storage
tiling over a laminate counter
painting a room ( a long in-depth article, covers walls and trim)
crown moulding basics
build a window seat
install a bathroom fan
replace a toilet
care of wood decks
lay a stone walk
and build an easy-stack retaining wall.
Plus the normal departments.
Dang. I sound like I'm advertising the magazine. Hope I don't get reported and censored.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
We sell FHB and FWW in our store.
I mean, I sell FHB! Wow, I hadn't thought of it in those terms before.
Don't you think they should cover my subscription?
Yeah, we have The Projects on our magazine display now...
You would think they would advertise it here.
