Finally got a chance to give my new makita impact driver a decent workout today. I think it is a huge up grade from a cordless drill. First its lighter than my 18 volt, second it drives 1/2 inch lag bolts in without pre drilling, third it doesn’t strip out screws, fourth it starts screws alot better, fifth it has a quick change bit holder but make sure the shank fits properly or you will pay dearly to get it back out. Last but most important there is zero torque transfer to your wrist, [if you ever screwed a deck down you know how wore out your arms and wrist get] . My only problem is the batteries take 5 or more charge and discharge cycles to start holding a reasonable charge.

Which one ya got Andy. I got the 12V Mak and I love it. I use it for just about everything even drilling with the jacobs chuck attachment.

does the jacobs or other chuck fit into the quick change chuck?
I don't have the jacobs bit but my regular bit holders fit OK and release well its just my 3/8s drive bit that is hanging up. The problem is the shanks a hair longer than the bit holders so I'm using the 3/8s in the bit holders.

Yep f your talking about the one for the mak impact. But dont put any drills all the way to te bottom of the jacobs chuck theyre a pain to get out just put them in enough to hold the bit solid. they tend to get stuck. how does the jacobs chuck,to take drills without a hex shank, fit into the quick change chuck?
Great for hanging cabinets, wonder what I ever did without it.
welcome to the club. had mine for 2 years. on the second set of batteries. last crew i was on i converted both guys to impact drivers. fellow i work with now loves the lightness and power but can not handle the sound.
i use a makita chuck for drill use.
I,ve been looking all over locally for either the makita or hitachi and can't find them anywhere. You guys have a good mail order source ?
I ordered mine from the tool crib online. The web site iswww.toolcrib.amazon.com

Anyone used the dewalt impact driver? I know the makita and hitachi get the best reviews but I was sort of hoping the dewalt was OK too since I have all dewalt batteries and chargers and it would be sort of annoying to have two battery systems around.
