Trying to plan the addition of a covered porch on a neighbors house. They have vinyl siding, 2 story house. I plan to remove one course of vinyl and fasten a ledger to the framing/sheathing. Where do I put the top surface of the shingles? Right at the factory bottom edge of the next higher piece of vinyl? I can’t see a reason to intersect the vinyl in the middle of a course as long as I have the opportunity to choose the elevation. I’ll add a starter strip to hold the bottom edge, and actually hold the roof down a bit to allow room for flashing.
