Hello All,
I recently was watching an episode of the This Old House or Ask This Old House and they mentioned a new type of pressure treated lumber. It was NOT CCA or ACQ. It did not contain arsenic or copper.
It was made by infusing the wood with silica and potash or lime (ingredients of glass) and then heating it to actually create a glass coating in the cells of the wood. This wood was not supposed to be corrosive to fasteners and it also was not green in color like other treated wood. Because it was heated and dried, it should be stable. It was also my understanding that the wood would not change color (weather) as much as CCA or ACQ.
I did an exhaustive search on the internet and I could not find any information about this product.
Is anyone familiar with this new product?

You may be talking about TimberSil.

TimberSIL is a revolutionary new wood treatment process that eliminates the problems not only of CCA but of all the chemicals that have replaced it. TimberSIL’s patented Sodium Silicate Technology (SST) is non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and non-corrosive. It is safe for the environment, and it requires no reengineering of treatment facilities. Best of all, TimberSIL’s protective characteristics match or exceed those of other treatment chemicals.
TimberSIL is Loaded With Benefits
TimberSIL is: non-toxic, non-corrosive, fire retardant, arsenic free, free of heavy metals, protects against rot & decay, protects against termites*, creates a protective barrier against mold & mildew, stainable & paintable, available in natural wood colors, and loaded with protection locked into the wood.
TOH says that a 2x4x8 syp trated with this will run about $4.50.
They are, evidently, overwhelmed by calls from the mention in TOH.

Even crows act like eagles when they see a dying snake.
Yep! That's what I was thinking of. It sounds as though I won't be seeing it in my local lumberyard in the near future. Thanks.
