New siding insulation overlaps new windows
Our siding contractor wants to skip insulation on James hardie shake siding because it goes beyond our new windows.
I want it insulated, and they told us to get windows installed first. Both windows and siding were contracted at the same time to make this easier, my old shake siding is tore off already and I feel pressured to let the crew continue.
Should this have been factored in and aren’t there other options than no insulation?
please help

Ensuring proper insulation is important for energy efficiency and moisture control. Consider discussing options such as cutting the siding to fit around the window or using a different insulation method. It is important to prioritize isolation for long-term benefits.
HI there, whomever installed the new windows needed to know that there would be exterior insulation added before siding. This way, furring the same thickness as the foam insulation would have installed around each window opening. Then the foam would but to the furring, and trim and siding installed. If the windows are already installed and trimmed you may not have any good options, if the combined thickness of foam and siding is thicker than your trim. If you are adamant about having exterior insulation, the windows could be re-set at the proper plane - big job OR re-trimmed with exterior extension jambs - Less of a big job but still not a great weather detail. Maybe a couple pictures of the windows installed in the wall be helpful. It sounds like a miscommunication unfortunately, as it would have been super easy to get the windows set up correctly for the addition of foam in the first place, now, not so much...
When installing new siding, make sure it overlaps the new windows properly to ensure weather protection and insulation. This overlap forms a barrier against moisture intrusion and improves energy efficiency within the home. Proper installation orientation prevents drafts and potential damage, optimizing the performance of both the cladding and the window.
It's understandable to feel pressured, especially with the old siding already off. It seems like insulation should have been considered earlier, especially since you wanted it. It might be worth discussing with the contractor if there are any other options or if they can make an exception. Maybe there's a way to work around it without compromising on insulation. It's important to feel comfortable with the decisions being made about your home.
