Mikey,
That's great, I really respect a carpenter who takes pride in the way he transports his tools.
If ya don't treat your stuff well, it won't treat you well.

I didn't see any pictures of a truck.
Just a shop. Where's the truck end?
Is this a deisel?
I've looked atthem but that climb up feels like it would wear me out all day with going in and out and in and out.

It's 4 steps up. I'm 49 and a heavy (200 lbs) smoker. I swear it has been NO problem. I just toss the stairs in back before I close the door at end of day.
It's diesel.

NPR is the only one for me. "KPLU, NPR news and all that jazz"Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
We must be in the same market, as we get KPLU here too. Listen to it all day sometimes. Weekend evenings they have the 'all blues' thing for several hours, which is awesome.
Same market. I'm in Black Diamond and work mostly on the east side, Bellevue, Sammamish, Isaquah,etc.Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
Just have to ask now that you mention it, is Blackdiamond bakery still up and running? Best donuts I have ever had the pleasure of eating!! The truck looks fun, now can you tow Mikes trailer? All we need is more tools!!
Dan
Where is Black Diamond ?
I have had a hankering for some really good bavarian cremes for a looooong time !
Posting at Breaktime should not be a full contact sport.
It's not always what you say. As much as how you say it.

It would be quite a drive for you, but as memory serves, it might be worth it. Black diamond is Mostly south of Maple valley, North of Enumclaw, East of Kent, and west of cumberland. That last one won't help much, but just has to be said. Been a long time for me, I'm sure others can give better directions. They used to bake over Alder wood stove. Happy dreams!!
Dan
The bakery is still there. We take visitors there for Sunday breakfast often. Good restaurant and bakery.
Can't tow the trailer yet but I stayed away from tuck-away lift gates so I can add a hitch later if needed. Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
Man, What a nice set up , its things like that that make going to work fun.
maybe someday.

I've had my '97 NPR (attach) since new. Got 140k miles on it and hope to get another few years out of it. I've replaced a lot of things, but so far nothing major. Be sure to keep the front end greased often. The kingpins get tight and make it steer hard. The GVW is about 12k lbs and I had an extra leaf added in the rear. Ya gotta love the turning radious!
I think the turning radius is better than the Chevy G-30 I moved up from! I wish I had the man door like yours for those quick purchases. It's a pita to drop the lift gate and roll up the door for a couple of 2x4s. I'm hoping to get close to 300,000 miles on my diesel. At least I'm told I should with good maintenance.Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
I would remove the lift gate and sell it, unless you move some really heavy items. It's a lot of extra weight for nothing.
I'ld like to get 300k out of mine too, but the box will probably rust out before then.
If you don't mind me asking....since you mentioned buying yours new.
I've been looking at the NPR diesel models and narrowed it down to one that is a bit shorter then the one you posted but as a flat bed that can take home-made side rails, etc.
It would be an alternative to a regular cab 8' bed pickup but maybe with more capcity/flexibility.
Loads of mulch, occasional gravel/sand, building supplies, etc.
Mostly around town and an occasional trip down the interstate of 50 miles each way.
I've been told to skip the non-turbocharged 4-cycinder models, if there is such a beast.
Even the most bare models seem to come with A/C, which is very nice. The rest I don't care about.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
For my work, I would buy one again, but probably a different box.
Th 4-cylinder diesel is fine for around town, but on the highway it lacks in power. The new engine is supposed to have more HP. I would never go automatic either unless I wasn't driving it!
A/C will be in the next one.
These trucks are built well, have a heavy frame and drive train. The turning radious is fantastic. But, they will beat you up on these frost heaves we are experiencing this time of year in VT.
A company here puts dump bodies on trucks and I see Mitsubishi All-Wheel-Drive ones there often. They are taller though.
Thank you, Mike, for the feedback on the NPR.
For the type of stuff I'm anticipating, a stake-side bed would be the most versatile.
A dump bed even better but maybe not worth the extra cost.
If they are reliable, the 4-cylinder I could live with.
I would just stay off the bypass but not lose too much time.
The NPRs are everywhere around here in Virginia.
Most of the newer delivery vehicles have automatic and A/C.
However, I am beginning to notice more and more Sprinter vans and many small businesses are buying them.
I know of one electrician who bought one for his biz.
(Mid length model with the high top.)
Wasn't aware of the AWD Mitsubishis.
Sounds like a bank breaker if something goes wrong.
i'm waiting to hear how those sprinters do in the mud or ice

Probably not any better or worse then other vehicles with similar drive system.
I think the powerplant and the body/box design is what's getting folks' attention.
it is for me, the low step in especially, but that can be an impediment in ruts or rougher ground. Also, the body design is kind of a unibody, I think and the biggest tow capacity you can get is about 5600#

With your concerns, a diesel Unimog would be the answer :-)
Then you could take on jobs in Tibet !
To counter the increasing pressure for a family van, I'm looking at the mid-length 10-seater Sprinters with the regular roof.
It should be able to gobble up 4x8 veneered ply goods and transport them safely.
I could've swore I was told 8000# towing cap. when I was lookin at one. If it wasn't I wouldnt even consider it. After he told the the price I didn't consider it anyway( $36K ).
Btw, my Fed Ex man has one and he made it up my driveway in 13" of snow. He said it handled good in the white stuff but it wasn't always fun trying to stop in the snow.Greg

The eight is total with only five for trailer
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
I have more torque, and more HP, and I tow a trailer (enclosed) that weighs over 5K, and the power is OK, around town, and Ok on the highway, but as soon as it gets hilly, or I'm trying to maintain 70+, it is out of breath. (FYI)Jake Gulick

Which vehicle/engine are you referring to ?
Well, I was just trying to give some feedback regarding numbers and towing capability.
I actually have 250 HP, and a little more torque. Its a GM 5.3, so the torque curve is different.
Just wanted to fill in a data point, so to speak.Jake Gulick

Thanks.
Yes, no doubt the V-8 American diesels are the more powerful and brutish beasts.
Piffin,
This Link says the towing capacity is 5k.
I would also be concerned about the power. It makes 150 HP and 250 ft. lbs. of torque. That doesn't seem like enough to me.

As for power, Last year while visiting in england the sprinter is everwhere and they fly past you on the motorways!! Shame it gets a Dodge badge here. With a Mercedes badge I'm sure it will sell better!
re - Last year while visiting in england the sprinter is everwhere and they fly past you on the motorways!!

A lot of cars do that in Europe once they reach cruising speed.
They may not yank out a tree stump like an American V-8 might, but on the highway they could run to the moon and back.
