New TS fence / why did I wait so long
All
I bought the Delta T2 30″ universal table saw fence for my old Craftsman saw on Monday. WOW. What a difference. I feel like I have upgraded to a unisaw.
I bought my saw at an auction in 1980. It was old then. It’s a 12″ direct drive with a cast iron table. It will rip about 20″ to the left of the blade and about 16″ to the right, with a aux fence that will sort of rip wider than 20″. I replaced the motor some time in the 80’s.
I have never been happy with the fence, it was hard to keep it square. If I wanted it dead on then I would measure the front and back to the miter gauge slot.
The new fence adds about 15″ of top beyond my cast aluminum wings, so I filled that in with a formica top piece. I really like that extra space to set work pieces
It is really sweet to cut with now. The fence is square, and it rolls so smoothly.
I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago. Cost was $150. I guess I always thought I would upgrade to a good Delta, but I never put the money together. Something else was always more important and I don’t have room for 2 saws.
