Anyone know whether there’s anyone that sells newel posts like the attached (other than custom shops)?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Jed.

It would probably be cheaper for you to buy a 48 in. lathe and learn to turn than to buy one of them.
Actually, I've been pleasantly surprised with the cost of custom turnings. Might be worth approaching a shop and asking.

I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
I'm startin' to breathe heavy!
Put some clothes on that thing, this is a family website!

If you don't have any luck here you might go over to Knots forum to the turning section and post, lot's of turners there and knowledge of a lot of shops that turn.

Have you tried the usual culprits like LJ Smith?
Believe it or not, Most stair parts going as far back as the mid 1800's were ordered from a catalog (Montgomery wards was a supplier at one time).
They probably don't have one, but can tell you who does.
Another option is to find a local woodturning club.
Go to the American Association of Woodturners site, at http://www.woodturners.org, and click on the "local chapters" link.
Chances are that, if there's a chapter near you, there will be someone in the club who can turn that for you.
