We’re in Evanston, IL, this holiday season, visiting kids and new grandson, and whenever here, I really enjoy walking the ‘hood, looking at the stately old homes.
So SIL and I are out walking the little guy, with the dog in tow, the little man strapped into one of these little “Baby Bjorn” things that harnesses him to the front of my chest, him looking forward, top of his head right under my chin.
You’ve seen babies in these rigs, right? Pretty cool. Imagine yourself in one, all buckled up securely, you dressed for the weather, and the human that’s carrying you is three times your height. The rythym of the walking puts you right to sleep. What a way to travel!
Anyway, we stroll across a park, and looking right at us, is this beauty.

Look at the stonework on the gable. Gorgeous, huh? What do you think it dates to? Furthermore, do you think it is stone, or terra cotta? Chicagoland architecture is full of both, some of the most fabulous terracotta being on the office building facades downtown, a lot of the designs from the Louis Sullivan firm, the work having been done in studios here, and in Milwaukee and St. Paul.

That is a sweet home, fits the ideal fantasy house I have. I bet the interior is even better.
My guess is it was built around the late 1880's.
You ever walk around Oak Park?
Oak Park? Of course. A few trips ago out here, we went down there, did the FLW studio tour, and the walkaround. I posted a little photo essay here.
We've done pilgrimages all over the U.S. to see FLW buildings.
