I'm thinking it's not an actual stairway and more of an aritistic effect. It looks like a fireplace on the left side of the pic, meaning the stairs lead you into a chimney and are filling a nook adjacent to the FP.

was noticing that as well after I posted. I doubt the cab rails would take the beating of a real stair. Must be the stairway to nowhere. But, still nice work.
