Hopefully Doc Kelly will take this thread over. We’re making another road trip, this time to do a copper roof on Doc Kelly’s beach house. He’s gotten it torn off and resheathed ready for the roof, so Los Guys and I are traveling tomorrow and will attempt to roof that sucker in 2 days.
Old Red is loaded up with the roof kit and tools and ready to roll.

I re-used the piece the sash fit in. I could have cut the fascia down and made it work, but the plate that landed on the roof was way too small.
I just used 3/4" plywood (couldn't get Advantech on Sun) and 1x2's glued and bradded for the structure. I made cardboard templates for the plywood and Max did the rest. I told him to just cut 45's on the roof side of the 1x2's, but he was figuring and cutting compound miters on each piece quicker than Chalio could glue and shoot. He started in the middle and worked both sides at one time. The bevel control on that saw was like part of his body. He's never used one before, AFAIK.
They were headed out tonight to get speedos for beach roof work. http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
Glad it worked out..ya had me scared.

I've got it rented to some guys working on the motel next to the Spearmint Rhino at the I-75/Richmond Rd exit starting next week sometime. I don't want to pay for a move and then have to send it back out that way, so you've got it until they're ready. I suspect Wed or Thurs at the earliest. I could have came with you it turns out. We got nothing going on this week. Been taking care of rentals and piddly stuff. I was actually headed home this morning because we had nothing going on, and I didn't want to work in the rain. It was pouring rain and all I could think of was napping on the couch all day. But I ran into our buddy and sometime lunch companion Terry he was working with security today. I walked over to their office and convinced them they needed me. So Terry and I worked together on a Genie lift all day hanging cameras. Fun time but man my body was really in the mood for napping. Fought that all day long.

There is an internet cafe on the boulevard just past the lumber yard, around 1st street, on the left coming from my house. You may be able to load up pics there. Otherwise, I'll throw my printer in the truck before I head down tomorrow, it has several slots for cards.

As Doc can tell you, there are thousands of gingerbread Victorian cottages on the Jersey Shore.
You ought to see Cape May, NJ, down near the mouth of the Delaware river. That old town is famous for that style, many of them restored to better than new condition by people who love 'em like Doc.
BTW, thanks for the reminder. I haven't been to Cape May in many years. It's certainly worth the trip, just to see the old homes.
Google: Cape May Victorians . Lots and lots of photos.
If you haven't stopped in at the Chautauqua Institute, near Jamestown, NY, check it out on your next road trip west. The victorian era gingerbread goes on an on, street after street.
I like this church that's there. No gingerbread. No wild bargeboards. Great shingle detailing, though, and the canopy cannot be beat.

Truth is I was done prep, still had lots of paint on the house when I bought a cheap heat gun from Harbor freight. It took off so much more paint I decided to strip even more and got a little OCD with it.
At the shore you have to paint every 5 years or so, keeping paint off the roof would have been an issue sooner or later.
Wow...fastest crew in the east I'd say.

Vise Grip brand is the obvious 1st choice, but just don't get Chinese junk. You can tell if you're handling them, and you can tell by the price if you have to order them.

OK - I got it now. Only flaw I see is repairing any future plumbing problems. Great idea otherwise.
On another note: I'm eating some crab and oyster soup Chalio brought me. It's killer. He used coconut milk as the base and loaded in some carrots, potatoes, and peppers. Not hot spicy, but very tasty. He made a good call on those crabs.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
I was at the post office today and saw a poster about what you can and can not ship. I'm curious if I can send some oysters to you guys through the mail.
My sister arrived today from Lexington. Maybe I can send her back with some stuff. We'll see, she's traveling with 3 young kids, might be to much to ask. Ask Chalio for the recipe, make sure you type it with a Joisey accent or I might mess it up:)
