Have new house; design is 1860 new england farmhouse; main room is in keeping room style (open floor plan). Have high efficiency oil fired furnace which creates a lot of noice. Some furnances are noisier than others. Sometimes it's the brand, sometimes it's a poorly adjusted funace. Before you try to add sound insulation, have the furnace checked out.
What do you mean "particularly at the vent?" What do you mean by "the vent." Where the flue pipe terminates? That should be outdoors, and not adding a lot of noise inside the house.
Thank you for your response. The furnace is in good working orde. There is a flue pipe that goes from the furnace to the chimney. prior to entering the chimney there is a portion of the flue pipe forming a T and draws fresh air into the pipe. I believe that is where much of the noise comes from.
