I live north of New York City about 50 miles. I’m building a new, energy efficient home, with superinsulated walls and a grass roof. It’s going to be a model of efficiency, yet very stylish. At the heart of the home, in the basement, I have plans to put in a massive fireplace. However, I am having trouble finding a qualified mason to design and build a Russian fireplace. None of the local masons have experience with this style.
I need an experienced mason who has designed and built large, efficient, masonary fireplaces. My contractor just started the driveway yesterday, 2-16, so I will need someone within the next month or so. If you live in the NJ, NY, CT, VT, PA or ME area, please write.
You can email me at [email protected].
Thanks,
John

Best post what your expected payout for this work is.
I know masons in Seattle, but probably past your price range, even without travel costs?
Try this: Masonry Heater Association directory

do you have a detailed design? not having one would be the only reason i can see being the reason for not finding someone that can do it

The tip to look at the MHA site is a good one. This organization is more like the euro guilds. I know you can find a member to vett in your area.
and do this b/4 you break ground as the key to these heaters are the heat holding mass and that requires substantial footings.
we've used our soapstone heater now for over 25 years and I can attest to its ability as both a primary and secondary heat source.
best of luck.
