i think you have to identify your costs… and your “COSTS” include paying you for everything you do… once you know what your costs are then you have to arrive at a pricing strategy that allows you to cover your costs
i’d start by filling out Jerrald’s worksheet
and i bet someone here can point you to it
then you should go back into the general discussion area and delete that post so you can get all of the discussion in one place

Any suggestions, experiences, "big don'ts" ?
Don't use other's prices to determine yours. You need to figure what your overhead (non-productive hours, vehicle expense, fuel, office supplies, etc.) costs are and decide how much profit you need to operate. Then determine your prices from that. There'll be others along to expound on this.

Hey I posted a question in the business section but thought I'd throw something on here as well. I live in Minneapolis, MN and am a new contractor. I'm wondering where I should be as far as mark-ups on both subs and materials. I'm also wondering what a decent price for wall tile installation and floor tile installation. I know this depends on factors like the tile size and the pattern, but is there a window per sq ft to start with? Like assuming it were a regular brick pattern on both wall and floor, maybe 4 inch tile on the wall and 10 or 12 on the floor. I'm hearing numbers from 7 to 20 bucks. Just looking for some info. to help me fine-tune things a little. I'd really appreciate the help. I want to be competitive, but I don't want to be a part of screwing us all in the long-run by giving things away. What do you think?

That was a neat trick. How'd you do that? You have a time machine or something?
barn cross posted to another folder earlier................
rez has the papent on the time machine, not gonna mess with that!
Have you taken a ride?
Have you taken a ride?
Just a few miles on the mountain bike in a token effort to stay in shape. I've also started running a few miles 2 to 3 times/week instead of sitting on the trainer. But, unless we get some unusual weather in February, my plan is to do 30 minutes twice/week on the trainer starting about then.
So, for 2009, my official ride miles are still zero.
I meant on the time machine.............
LOL, I hate riding indoors.
DW will go 20 miles. At 10 I want to stick a fork in my eye!!
