I thought I’d stick in a couple pics of a shack I built some years back(’86).The HO was a real kraut, and had driven all over Bavaria for design ideas. He also owned the sawmill which cut the building, so all those beams were still very green when they got lifted into place. Ouch.

Great looking roof, Dave. Not far from what I'd think of as "Craftsman" style.
How'd you cantaliever that deck that far? That must have taken a little engineering, huh?
Yeah, the styles seem to run into each other. The cantilever,IIRC, runs back into the building 9 or 12 feet. I forget if the balcony was 3 or 4 feet deep. The roof was skip sheathed, and I used let-in diagonal bracing in the rafters below the sheathing. There is no plywood on this house.
Awesome!
Make that two !!
Excellence is its own reward!
I wish I could find the shots of the interior. All Black Walnut trim, wormy Oak cabinets, almost too much wood. And that's coming from a real wood nut!
Who bagged the bull elk?
I think he bought it at auction. I heard he paid 700.00 for an old, rusty bear trap. Pure decoration. I think there's a bell hanging there, too.
That area was priority #1 when the siding started. He was anxious to hang his horn s ;^}
