now is the time..

Y’all that burn wood…inspect and clean the flue. It really doesn’t take tooo long..if ya can’t fathom doing it yer self, or ya think you are OK…just have it done.

Chimney fires burn houses, cost countless deaths..

Please, have your flue inspected, and cleaned on a regular basis. There is no “good time” for a catasrophe…a few moments of your time, may not only save your family, but that of your neighbors as well.

This message is brought to you by someone who has been a victem, of an errant lack of maintenace..

IF YOU HAVE NOT PREFORMED ANY MAINTENANCE>>???? !!!! I AM TALKING TO YOU>!!!!!!!

Do not gimme the excuses…this is a warning, and I mean it. If you cannot do it yourself..hire a sweep…it won’t cost anywhere near, what the loss will total…it’s also a tax cut..DO IT..

So you finally got tired of the house and burned it down?

He'll never admit it. He'll claim it was at a neighbor's house. But just watch. He'll never post any more pictures that clearly show new work on the old house. It'll be pictures of the old house that we've just never seen before, and pictures of new work that can't be verified as being in the old house.

"What new purlins?"  Can almost see that now . . . <g>

Hmm, some nice "temporary" sheet goods just where the "smoke damage" is over where the chinking is not . . .

Nope, I'm sticking to heartfelt message of all good intentions to all of BT in the bonhommie we expect here.  Unless there's pictures to the contrary <wink> . . .

End or beginning of fireplace season, either is a good time to have the sweep in.  Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)

    tax cut? how?

I had mine swept this year after 3 winters of fires. Actually, not swept. He came, looked, said it looked new, and didn't clean nothing. $50ish.

  3. maverick | Feb 10, 2005 02:29am | #11

I burn 3 to 4 cords a year. Every year I get up on the roof with a strong light and look down with a tarp or a shirt over my head so I can see to the bottom clearly. There isnt so much as a bird turn on the inside of my flue. I have never run the brushes down my flue and I have a full set.

Why? Its all in how you burn your wood. When I start a fire I let it roar for 20 minutes. After 10 or 12 hours I let it roar again. It cleans itself. I some times throw a little soft wood in but only when the fire is good and hot and I mix it with hard wood.

I throw in the biggest log that will fit at bed time and let the fire burn down overnite. First thing in the morning I throw in whatever will burn the hottest and let it roar for a while.
