Which version did you get? Are you upgrading?
full version 8.0.
been working on acad
can't talk- it is a brave new world!
ohboyohboyohboy!
check into the Chief User's group... lot's of great guys/gals there...only problem is reading about 100 emails a day.. ( or not )Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
yep. bought it after a trial run- got to get off line and draw stuff
Is that the official group, or the unofficial one? Which is more useful?
Chief Users is the unofficial one.. i find it more useful.. but i'm mostly a lurker..it's one area (among many others ) where i can learn more by shutting up
The ART official site is good too, but not as sophisticated
some of the ART tech people pop into the User's group every now and then..
another great Chief source is Berryvale software.. Steve Blake has a tech question diary that he keeps current
it keeps gettin better-
i just imported six acad house plans- BINGO! SHAZAM!
I am in love with this program
How much was it? Assuming it's 500$ like all the rest I've priced is there any scaled down version that would work well for a remodeler?
$995 for a Base Version...
here's a link to the ART home page..
http://www.chiefarch.com/
the base model and the full model are on sale this month. Twenty five percent off.
$745.00 sale price on the base
$1123.00 sale price on the full
and if you buy two the second one is $298.00 complete.
so dear old dad is getting an early fathers day gift
There is also a slightly dumbed down version called Chief Architect Home Edition 5.0 for $495. I looked at the differences and decided to try it. Two main diffs...max print size is 11x17, and the library of textures and cabinets is smaller. I saw a list of the actual diffs, I'll try to find it again.
that's a great starter, because if you like it and want to expand they will give you credit to an upgrade...
I looked at the base, considered buying it and upgrading in a month or two,but it would have cost more than just spending the extra cash now.
What is your opinion of the materials calculator?
the materials calculator is good for rough estimates... i wouldn't use it for a cut list.. but you can get great SF quantities off it.. as long as you have the correct "materils" on the surfaces you want quantities forMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
they will be continuing those kinds of offers right until VS 9.0 comes out.. which is just going into beta testing now..
we hold 3 seats.. one pro ( a double license ) and one full.. so we can run two work stations at the office and one here at home
What do you mean you "hold a double license"? I thought you buy the program and that's surely it.
you need one license for each machine you want to run it on.. it's the way all CAD works as far as i know...
with the dongle (hardware lock ).. you can load one license on as many machines as you want... then move the dongle from machine to machine depending on which one you want to useMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
So does the "license" mean "monthly money"?
It only means that you buy as many as you're gonna have people using them. Software is sold as a license-to-use rather than ownership, because if it were owned, then you could do as you wish with it, including copy it. That's not good economics for a software developer, so the license gives them a better handle on how many people are using the product.
what cloud said.. and no.. you buy the license once.. it's good until you get tired of using it.. it's good after you get tired of using it..
when a new version comes out.. after awhile they will stop supporitn it with tech.. but it basically lasts forever..
if i wanted to i could still be running my version 5.0 that i bought in '97.. but what i usually do is buy the upgrade when the specials come out and then run two versions unitl all of the bugs are out of the new one ( there are always bugs )..
the new features are always so awesome , it's almost impossible to resist the upgrades...
Nothing to do with anything, but at the very instant that I clicked on this thread to see what it was about, my wife, on the other side of the library, rubbed her eyes to settle in for a few hours of reading for her college courses and said, "ohboyohboy." The very instant. She did two and you did three.
Better be careful what you click on then. Prospero is getting more powerful every release..
