Hey everyone,
Anybody working in Ohio…. Can you give me any info on Licensing in the Buckeye state. I am getting started part-time on my own (day job as a trim carp/cabinetmaker), and I would like to play by the rules. Thanks.

There is no state-wide liscencing for contractors/carpenters. There is city by city, and some county wide registering of contractors. You'll just have to check with each governing body as you start bidding work.
exactly as john says (real john?) each municipality/county has different set of rules. Many (most) have no lic. stipulations cept for those wishing to register you for income tax purposes. Rumors abound about a state system similar to that required of electricians with the local governing bodies honoring state testing. Which part of Ohio you from?

Calvin,
Thanks for the info, I'm in the Dayton area.
Matt
Have never worked in that area matt, but one tip I could give you is talk to an insurance agent re. liability ins. Around here, the only stipulation some give where no lic. is required) is proof of ins, and on rare occassion-a performance bond for some commercial/government work which can be secured short term as jobs dictate. Even as a one man operation you need to cover you rear. Best of luck.__________________________________________
