The house that I’m currently living in had a carpet in the upstairs. In my infinte wisdom I decided to replace it with an american heart pine rather than put laminate( no offense, I just don’t like the look) I talked my wife into the wood. The problem is the house was built in the 50’s and the tile floor under th carpet is from sometime between 1950 and 1980. I’m pretty positive that it contians asbestos, (99%) I saw a very similar design and style on a website about asbestos. My dilema, a buddy says just install the flooring right over the top of the 9×9 tiles. I’m not sure if that is the right thing to do. Comments

Install the flooring. As long as you aren't doing anything but driving nails you aren't going to stir up any asbestos.
You only need to remove if the asbestos is friable.
We have quite a bit that we have "mitigated" by installing the vapor barrier and then pergo over. It is thus enclosed and the fibers can't be accessed.
