Hi Everyone,
Last year I did some taping and patching in the house we moved in to and a guy I work with (I’m a cabinet maker) gave me a lend of his drywall hand sander. Its the same size as a regular pad that you put the sanding screens onto, but it’s hollow and has a nozzle at one end for a shop vac. Its very basic, but it works a treat. The only other one I can find that has dust collection is the enormous one with the rotating head from porter cable, but this seems like overkill to me as my next project is only 9 sheets of drywall to hang and tape in my basement.
Does anyone know where you can get them? I’ve had a look on ebay and also on the sander, but there are no markings of a manufacturer on there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Len.

There's a couple, and I've seen similar ones at Home Depot but I can't find them on their website.
This is the one they had at HD, I have one, it does pretty good job. It is a little hard to get the dust out of the hose though, but all of the hoses like this trap dust. This is the whole enchilada except vacuum. Saves your vac too.

My guess is that it's the older version of the Hyde Dust system

I have one of those shop vac/water bucket gizmos. I used it, er, one time. If you use enough suction to catch the dust, it makes it really tough to move the sanding head, 'cause it's sucked onto the wall. LOL
My present MO is to be a bit more careful on the first coat, so there's no real sanding before the second -- only a bit of knock-down with the trowel/knife. Then I rent a PC drywall sander to do the second coat. ($60 well spent, IMHO. I HATE sanding DW.) The third coat is a smooth filler coat so again, not much sanding needed. The mudding is a bit more tedious and a bit slower, but the job is done much faster overall since there's less sanding and there's less dust with only one real sanding.

If it is the sand&clean one it has a valve to adjust the suction so it will not grab the wall.
Surely you are not one of us guys who does not read directions(;-).

I was just joking, "like for sure (certainly) you are not one of us who does not read directions", thought you were calling me out (in a good kind of way) for not using his name. Was kind of at a loss as to what you meant other than that.
We don't need no stinking instructions/directions!! (:-)
take a look at the directions some time...they're written in 19 languages ya can't even begin to make sense of...
what ya can read is all leaglese...
and we're not lawyers...so why bother in the first place...just toss 'em right from the get go...tellin' others to RTFM is our get over...remember to keep this little bit of information to ourselves...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

If you get caught reading the inst/dir you lose your man-card and they change the password to the man-cave. When I went looking for the link to the sand&clean I read the reviews on Amazon. Mike was not the first to do that, it was mentioned several times, that is why I chimed in.
There are many of us who take an abnormal amount of pride in not reading them. I do not mind them putting them in so many languages, I just despise it when they are on the same page and I have to look for the flag or whatever. Had to take French in HS an early college, lived in Germany and it gets pretty confusing because some looks familiar.
I usually tear the other language versions out and toss them. Sort of like tearing off the little advertising 6" add-on on the first page of the Sunday comics. It is a ritual after closing the door, lifting the lid, dropping shorts, and sitting down.
Directions? Real men don't need no stinkin' directions. We wuz BORN with direction!
Yeah -- mine has a valve. Don't know the brand name -- after one use about 10 years ago, it went back in the box and is burried somewhere in a storage room. The problem on mine is with the design of the head. If you turn the valve so the head doesn't suction cup the wall, you may as well turn off the vac, 'cause the dust just doesn't get sucked up.
I don't do enough drywall to justify it, but it I did, I'd own a PC DW sander. That and a drywall lift are two tools I'll always be glad to rent and consider it $$ well spent.
