I managed to rescue my red oak at a demolition sale.
They were tearing down a perfectly good 1930-40s house to put up a McMansion. Was the only bidder and got a 2 story house of redoak for 300usd. Of course, we did have to remove it....in the hottest summer ever.
You may want to look for demoltion sales in your area, salvage yards might have it too (depends on the architectural salvage yard) and check with the permit department in your city (you can track down whoever requested a demolition permit and they might let you rescue some flooring).
Perfect beef stew, perfect meatloaf and perfect wine jelly.
How difficult can perfecting creme brulee be?

The only bidder?
You started too high. ;o)be dead on or that quarter inch is going to haunt you
LOL. 'sok, I don't feel too awful about it, especially when I consider the previous auction I was at. This stupid wench just HAD to have my floor and when the bidding went over 400, I let her have it(reluctantly). 'cause I remembered that bidding was only half the fun. Ripping it out with as little damage as possible was the next step.
When I went back to get the newel post, I was thrilled to see that it was a relatively new installed flooring, complete w/brads AND glue. hehehePerfect beef stew, perfect meatloaf and perfect wine jelly. How difficult can perfecting creme brulee be?
So how do you rip out t&g with little damage?Retired until my next job.
maybe put a 'wanted' ad in the paper...
dont know where you live.. but try craigslist.org if they have a site local to you
here in california there are several companies that basically gut old houses of any usable wood/windows/fixtures/etc... prior to it being torn down... and resell it.. maybe you can find out in your area
good luck..
how much do you need? i think i've got enough for some patching larry
I bought some 2"x5/16" x 4'+ oak flooring at Truitt and White Lumber in Berkeley, CA, a couple of years ago. I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't that bad. I needed to replace some flooring that was 2"x3/8", but it appears that they don't make make it quite that thick any more. I ended up shimming with some paper to bring it up to the right height.
Truitt and White is a pretty good sized lumber yard, they have a web site at:

(If you are close enough to go there, be sure to walk over a block and a half and visit the Builder's Booksource, it's a great place to waste too much time and spend too much money...

Edit: Whoops, the oak strip flooring was not tongue and grooved, either the original nor my replacement. Are you sure it is t&g, there .wouldn't be much room on the edge for much of a tongue. My oak strip floor was face nailed.
