You heard it here first:
There’s an email making the rounds claiming in 1987 Olliver North justified installing a $60,000 security system because he had been threatened by terrorists.
According to this email, one Senator in the Senate hearing challanged him as to whether it was excessive:
Partial Quote:
“Threatened by a terrorist? What terrorist could scare you that much?”
North responded “His name is Ossam bin Laden sir.”
“And what do you recommend we do about him?” asked the Senator.
“Well, sir, if it were up to me, I would recommend taht an assasin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth.”
The Senator disagreed with this approach ….
If anyone is interested, the Senator turned out to be Al Gore.
End Quote
Great story, if only we’d listened to that great patriot Oliver North, we wouldn’t have the problems we have today, and Al Gore is to blame!!!!
Small problems though: the terrorist Oliver North talked about was in this context wasn’t Bin Laden:
quote
When it was disclosed that North had accepted a $13,800 fence and security system as a gift from businessmen who were profiting on the arms sales, North testified that the fence was necessary to protect his family from terrorists. In order to distract public attention from this obvious and extremely unpatriotic case of bribery, North’s lawyers displayed a
huge photograph of noted terrorist Abu Nidal. “I want you to know,” said North, “that I’d be more than willing — and if anybody else is watching overseas, and I’m glad they are — I’ll be glad to meet Abu Nidal on equal terms anywhere in the world. OK?”
Oh, yes. The members of the Senate Select committee:
Chairman Daniel K. Inouye, United States Senate Select Committee on Iran/Contra
Members: David L Boren, William S. Cohen, Orrin G. Hatch, Howell Heflin, James A. Mc Clure, George J. Mitchell, Sam Nunn, Warren Rudman, Paul S. Sarbanes, and Paul S. Trible,Jr.
Not a Gore in sight.
Why on earth are they having to make up stories about Gore at this point in time?
