Last week I had a well drilled at a house lot for my future home. I had to do the usual stuff for a building permit, go through the planning board, 4 nosey woman who want to walk on your property looking for vernal pools $35, then onto conservation, they came out to walk around, told I need a silt fence 150′ from wetlands and a permit for a porta- potty $10, then onto health dept., septic design permit $100, then on to the well guys so the water can be tested and flow rate checked, more $ than I would like to disclose at this time,in order to pay $650 for a building permit. So I get the call from the well guy, he says there is a town official down at the lot, and he wants us to shut down because we don’t have a well permit, didn’t I.D. himself either. I rush there, only to miss him, so I call town office and I’m told they didn’t send anyone out. Meanwhile the well guys are ready to leave and it was then I realized the inspector from the next town over had been driving by and thought he was in his town, the lot is near the line, and decided to trespass and hassle someone without having a clue to where he was. Cost? Priceless! I was just glad it wasn’t me on the $hit end of the stick this time. Hey, building inspectors are people too, or are they? cc
