So a helper and I just finished a 16’x19′ deck yesterday. Except for the 4 trips to the lumber store(not my takeoff, HO supplied materials) it couldn’t have gone better. Finally after all these years of accumulating tools it finally seems to be paying off, as far as ease of construction goes. We spent 1.5 hrs on the previous day digging 3 holes, then we left so the inspector could do his job.
So on what I consider Day 1 we demo’d the vinyl siding, set posts & beam, joists, box and posts. Nice day 65 and sunny.

Day 2 starts out with a new LIVE pearl jam album so I know its gonna be a good day!
Screw down all the decking(senco duraspin=phenomenal) then take lunch.
Helper cuts my treads then all the railing pieces.
He builds the rails as I build the stairs. Finish the stair rails and call it a day, Long one but a day nonetheless.
Day 3 starts out with a Rancatures album so I have a lil trouble getting started but he's jammin so I let him go on the bench seat.
I take care of the stair rail tops then move on to reinstalling the vinyl siding. He finishes the bench, cuts the rail tops, we clean up and head home.
Its been a while since I could just stay on one job for a couple straight days and really get work done. I actually left the phone in the truck for the second half of day 2. Man that felt good. Now I remember why I love framing.
wow.
looks great and in great time too.

Nice looking deck and looks like you made good time on it too.... hope you made some good cash as well. I like the chamfer on the rail.... nice touch.... it's the details that seperate the best from the rest.View Image
Clipping the corners seem to always look a litttle better. With this one we used a laminate trimmer with a 1/4" round over bit and rounded over all four corners of the top of the rail. Makes it look nice and soft.
The details are at the top of the stair rail butting into the rail post on the main deck. Had to cut a V (52deg. on a 29 bev)on the stair rail so that it would wrap around the post. Took some time but came out great.

Looks like a cool thrash of a time!

Nice work considering you were forced to listen to Pearl Jam while building.:>)
I like the clipped corners on the deck and the rails echoing the bay...nice continuity.
You left a knot there in that board . . .
