wow thanks for showing it
You the man, Jeff! Beautifully designed and executed...in fact, worthy of any spread in the kitchen/remodel mags - better than many I've seen. Love the finish and especially love the backsplash plugmold detail.
Can you tell me more about the fastcap powerhead installation you mentioned? Not that we who are usually in the semi-custom world will ever get near one. I think I know what this is, but just not sure.
Again, very beautiful work.
Thanks all -
Susie here's a link to Fastcap's tool kit - http://www.fastcap.com/products.aspx?id=1408
The keys are the countersink, which adjusts to both countersink the 'bugle' part of the powerhead screw and the thickness of the adhesive veneer cap.
In this case, I had the fabricator finish some 3M adhesive veneer to match and we 'punched out' the matching caps from that. Several other rooms of cabinetry were done the same way.

Thanks so much - a resource I truly needed!! Keep up the good work!
Wow!
Very Nice Indeed.

Great design, even better choice of materials. Combined it's a show piece. I'd be afraid to use it, looks to nice to mess up. (g)
Gives me some inspiration to do something with the 100 board ft of Tiger maple I got laying in the shed out back.

Thanks Matt - it's a real pleasure to use. Almost impossible to hurt the granite and the maple is very hard/durable too. The stainless is probably the least durable surface.
We love the Typhoon Green granite - it has a range of green to go with the tile, but lots of black that coordinates with the other countertops and swirls of orangey-brown about the same shade as the cabinets (not to mention mica for a little sparkle).

Beautiful work!!
I really like the quirk beading around the doors and drawers, and that the glass door muntins align with the shelves inside.
what kind of stain/finish did you use on the tiger maple?
Shep - it's very hard to stain as I'm sure you are aware. The shop that did this only does this finish on curly maple. Can't really go into it much but it's a custom blend.
The shelves are very closely aligned with the muntins, but if you adjust a shelf the leading edge is dark maple so it doesn't show as starkly as a light-colored shelf.

Nicest kitchen i've seen in a long time.

Trust in God, but row away from the rocks.
Nice, Jeff.
CNC-cut? Software used?
Make and model of door hinges? Door latches?
Hinges are Amerock full inset non-mortise type http://www.amerock.com/enUS/Products/Full_Inset.html (not my choice except for finish) ... magnetic catches.
No CNC - these are all shop-fabricated except for the doors (not sure where they are from, maybe Conestoga or similar).
Design on ARRISCad, which I've been using since 1985.
Jeff
Jeff, tell me more about ARRISCad...is it strictly cabinet design or can it be used for design and presentation. Presently using 20/20, not entirely happy with reliability and it's pricey.
Thanks!
It's not kitchen design but a full architectural package - http://www.arriscad.com There is a 'sister' product called Builder's Cad. Not the most popular product but after using it since 1985 I feel *fairly* proficient ;o) Very, very productive software.
Jeff
Thanks, I'll check into it!

Wow, wow ,wow, Jeff one of the prettiest kitchens I've EVER seen. Just beautiful.
Thank you!
Jeff,
Great attention to detail.
Now tell me, was it a lucky break that the chair clears the corbel bracket or did you figure that one out to.
Beautiful!

Hey, Jeff. A couple more questions.
I'm seeing sidejoined faceframes here, one side with an outside bead, the other square, so there's a bead between the "joint." Izzat right?
And as regards the beaded frames, are they done with tack-in bead strips, or are they molded with beads integral?
View Image
Also, re the maple, are you using curly maple inside the glassdoor cabs?
One more, re the fronts, and it relates to oursourcing. I outsource all fronts, and my supplier has select curly maple, it having a cost just slightly under the doug fir jobs I just did a batch of. With a door quality like shown in the pic here, would you consider outsourcing the fronts for a job like this? The pic shows a bare door . . . about 25 "spray no wipe" (translation: no blotching) stain colors are available. Your color would be close to "Honey."
View Image
No, you are seeing the dishwasher front panel which is why there is a gap (for clearance). I chose to close the gap a bit with some rounded over pieces.
The bead is run on the stiles and rails directly.
The door you show is beautiful quality. This is my own kitchen so budget had a large part to play. I'm not sure where the doors were outsourced to, but the one you show seems really first rate.
Jeff
I'd be proud to have that kitchen in my house. Very nice. I flashed it.

I think they both ended up parked at the same spot.
Wish my flashing of your pics hadn't made them blurry. Doesn't do it justice. As someone mentioned, that K is worthy of a magazine spread.

Not quite! Probably 2,000 miles apart.

It's a big locker ;o)Jeff
So Jeff, who was the cabinet maker? Wouldn't hesitate using him for the right customer.
thanks for the picts - that's a bunch of figured maple! - I'd be interested in hearing more on the drawered refrigeration - I assume that's what's showing in the one picture - I'd love to get rid of the big box...."there's enough for everyone"
You can see more on the Subzero integrated units here - http://www.subzero.com/products/category.aspx?cid=3
They have made attaching panels a lot easier over the years.

WOW!! Absolutely stunning. Beautiful work. Does my spirits good to see some great work. Spend my days installing trim, cabinets, and hardware in condos and townhomes .......... get kind of discouraged when parts fall off the cabinets when you're unpacking them and the wall you're hanging them on (new construction) is out almost an inch in eight feet. Currently I'm a student at the Larry the Cable Guy School of Fine Carpentry- "Git 'er Done!" How much time do you have invested in the kitchen? Well spent, regardless of how much time it took..
Sent you an email.
Jeff
I like the microwave oven built flush into a wall cavity. Great idea when you have the room in back. The only prob is needing to stoop to see all the controls clearly.
MWs are always a hassle in a kitchen, IMHO, it terms of cab design, unless you are doing a combo MW-hood.
You're right about the eye height. The main microwave is the Miele - it's a combination convection / microwave and we thought it might be a bit cumbersome for heating a cup of coffee (it isn't).
The Sharp micro in the recess is for just that - minor tasks. Plus at the rear of the recess there is a makeup air inlet grille for the exhaust hood.
The TV will be mounted on an arm in the other recess.
Jeff
Gotta love microwaves...the kitchen designer's version of the 60" big screen TV. No matter where you put 'em, it just ain't pretty.
My newest headache, the oversized suckers that need at least a 21" deep cabinet, and when you build them in with a trim kit the bottom is level with my nose. That's convenient.
So when my customers ask why I designed a micro cabinet that sits lower than all the others, I tell them it's because appliance manufacturers are crazy or stupid!
Thanks for letting me vent!!!!
Jeff, that's possibly the nicest kitchen I've ever seen.
Man, you said it.

Jeff,

Jeff, what everybody else said!
I've got one going with all figured cherry right now but for my money tiger maple is the single most beautiful wood - my personal fav, that kitchen does the wood justice, great job.
Doug
Wow. Outstanding job. Thanks for posting the photos.
Question on the maple finish -- did you use a shellac layer before staining to keep it from blotching?
That is one sweet cabinet job and kitchen, should be very proud of what the end result was!
Do you know the source of the highly figured Tiger?
Did they make the bead in the cabinets or is it trim attached?

The light fixtures (new fitters, antique globes) did not reproduce well, so here is one (from the 1930's) closeup.
All ceiling lighting is lamped with CFLs. This photo makes the light look 'dim' but it isn't. The whole space is adequately lit with around 150 watts of CFLs.

He! Not a chef, just like a kitchen that is functional and gorgeous...
Jeff, I can't quite figure your microwave out. Is it to the left of the stove and is it set back two feet and thus into teh wall?
Primary microwave is a Miele convection/micro - top of the stack that includes the regular Miele oven and warming drawer.
The secondary microwave (inexpensive Sharp) to which you refer is recessed flush with the wall. There are other things going on behind this wall that made the recess easy. All three kitchen recesses are surfaced with Corian, as are the sink cabinet bottoms.
