Since I had some great help here cutting the noise from the step van that’ll be replacing the old box truck… I thought that posting some pics of the new lay out for tools, lumber and passengers might help someone, sometime out-fit theirs.
I’ll be adding two seats that I saved from a Dodge Intrepid with a blown motor. A friend welded the seat riser for me. Other parts from that Dodge will also go into the van ( Cup holders, Radio, Lights, seat belts and more).
It’s a work in progress that I hope to finish by Fall.
I used metal studs attatched with rivots to secure every thing to the body of the truck. Much cleaner look on the outside than using screws. Some were filled with 2×4 for added strenght.
Best to you and yours, Chris.

I hope you keep the post going. I get a lot of good ideas from this forum. I'm thinking van next time, but I'm afraid the tools rattling would drive me nutty. Do you have a sketch of the final result or just making it work based on past experiences? Best of luck with the new machine.

A little of both. As it's said, "No battle plan survives a meeting with the enemy." It's important to measure large tools like a table saw when planning a project like this. I started with a CAD drawing then adjusted on the spot when needed.Best to you and yours, Chris.

Looks great. I have usually seen the plywood rack laying flat on the floor. I like idea better. way more functional. I just made a rack for my pickup. I don't know how I have managed to go so long with out it.
Dave
The ply rack is better if it functions like a bookcase and separate the 8-0 lumber from longer stock above that.
Best to you and yours, Chris.

Great thread - keep us posted on progress. Love this type of topic!

Here is a drawing that I started with. The 16'-0 storage sacrificed some space in the front door to give the rear roll up door clearance. Necessary since a rating of any trucks cargo area is actually a few inches shorter. Also a 16'-0 board could be really up to 16'-1-1/8" in length. Plus materials tend to shift while driving. So the result is 16'-3-1/2". Ideally, a 17' or 18' rated truck would be best. Thought I'd mention that if any Carpenters out there were looking to buy a step van or truck.
Best to you and yours, Chris.

Could just be me, but I get an error trying to open the .pdf file. Could the caps be causing the issue?-D

No worries, I'm no Bill Gates either. Nice looking setup in the sketch. I dig the built in man fridge. I look forward to seeing it come together.-D
