I have a 2 year old deck that has construction-heart redwood decking. After the initial winter season to allow it to dry out I sanded it down with a floor sander and applied a quality deck sealer/stain to bring out the reddish color of the redwood. While the deck looks good, the stain gives it a dull finish similar to a piece of woodwork that is stained, but not varnished. When the deck is wet it has a beautiful deep red color that really looks nice. This leads me to my question. Is there anything I could use on top of the deck stain to achieve that same wet ‘varnished’ look? I was thinking of linseed oil, but wouldn’t that attract dust/dirt over time? Any comments appreciated.

BE careful that glossy look will also be slippery when wet. I used a product by sikkens, "Cetol srd". One coat turns out flat , two coats turns glossy and slippery. check out their web site
Hey Guys, just a few things that we have learned over the years, that might help with your question, dont wait at all, no matter what kind of decking you have to put on the finish it seems this info was put out by the guys who sell you the finish,if its dryed out and started to slpit and crack a little,,it takes 3 times the finish, any organic oil will foster mildew and mold,,they feed on it,my co. now uses TWP on all our projects, it has UV mildcide and water protection and you can put the second coat on right away they call it wet on wet,we used SuperDeck for years but latley the product has changed toward the down hill side,TWP and SuperDeck make strippers and combined with an oxlic acid wash will bring back almost any wood to the way it was,any product that is clear or what they call natural does not have UV no mater what they say on the can,in fact the acid wash is a good idea on a new deck,it helps breakdown the mill glaze thus alowing the finish to get into the wood. What is TWP? What kind of problems were you having with SuperDecks?
You might want to look at the last few months of Consumers Reports. Dern if I can find the issue now. It was a nice 3 year study of deck finish performance. Some of the most well known products did rather poorly. You might try your local library for back issues of CR.
If I find the issue I'm looking for I will post back with the issues month.
