We had a discussion here in the past about the best type of plywood to use for painted signs used outdoors but I cant find it with a search. Seem to recall that it had somekind of paper surface. Anybody got some ideas for me?
Thanks, JonC

MDO (Medium Density Overlay). We can get it here in one sided or two, 1/2" or 3/4" (probably 5/8" too, but I can't remember ever tryin'). At Brookdale Lumber in Spanaway they often have "shop" grade, or "MDO blows" for around 20.00 a sheet.
*We may be talking about the same thing but here we call it "sign board" It's plywood with some sort of paper face.
*Jon, If you are making a sign that you intend to use for awhile, I would dado the MDO into a solid wood border to protect the edges, caulk it and give it 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of latex acrylic paint. Then go find a guy with a computer setup for making vinyl lettering and use that instead of paint. It is much easier to design and letter and the quality is super!
*MDO is the stuff Jon. You can very effectively seal the edges with the readily available Vulkem 116 caulk. Zinser 123 primer and 2 coats of Rodda Unique II.How's the lambing season been?joe d
*Thanks fellas,My wife is starting an herbal garden center and my very talented artist daughter wants to make a sign for her for her birthday. Pretty much my part in this is to make sure she has an appropriate canvas to work on and hang it for her. If you've got any more advice for us keep it coming.Great lambing season Joe but worst coyote year we've had in ages. Your woodpecker wintered through with us year but it's still alone. Good news is that the new State trapper, er, wildlife specialist, is actually worth a shit. Gave up on the old one 10 yrs ago. This dude knows he has your dream job, jumped through the hoops to get it and truly appreciates it.JonC
