I have been trashing my equipment in my bed for far too long. I am looking at a new (2004) long box pickup to replace my old girl and am looking for new storage systems. I currently have been packing a large single lid box to the hill and everything else gets exposed to the weather. I will only put a System One ladder rack on so that limits what I can do. Although they are very pricey, has anyone had any experience with Damar Truck Deck. They look very high end and would totally suit my needs, only I’ve never seen them before. Truck caps are not an option because I love the capability I have with my rack system, but I need to better utilize my bed (to all the jokers, I here the comments coming).
Thanks in advance,
Dustin

Dustin,
I'd shoot an e-mail or research the archives for dieselpig (aka Brian). He's got a
sweet setup and he might have some advice.
otherwise... consider this just a bump for your thread.

thanks, will do, that Damar thing looks nice though.
Check out Huck's thread on building his storage boxes. Very good.

I would add a tool trailer .
with what I'm spending on the truck? not gonna happen
I need weathertight storage. I've seen the awesome work done to build pickup storage with pullout drawers. I'm a framer that has all the equipment (and some of the skills) to do trim. Most of our work is demo to prepare for additions. I'm asking if anyone has heard or used this system?!
Thanks
Dustin
When a pickup becomes too small to haul the tools it doesnt get any better with the pickup. You will always be fighting with the problem. You can fill up your pickup bed and youve lost your truck basically. Youre not really driving a pick up any more . You have a tool truck. If your gonna drive a tool truck then you might as well drive a van and have a real tool truck. They beat a pick up 10 to 1.
On the other hand a pick up and a trailer beats a van if you have access on the job sites . Jeff Buck says he doesnt so he drives a big van. He lives in a city.
Weve all been where youre at. Its not a new story.
You mentioned with what youre gonna spend on the truck its not gonna happen. Thats counter productive . I didnt know that till the problem got so bad I was forced to buy a trailer. I still cant haul everything by a long shot but I dont spend near as much time loading and unloading tools.
They didnt used to make so many tools . Im old enough to remember seeing carps working out of a single wooden box with a closet rod for a handle . They could drive a station wagon and that box would be in the back and a skill saw sitting beside it .
