I just got finished caulking tonight. The room used to be my home office (note the door); with three kids its location, (amongst the bedrooms) made for a better laundry room – The nice big downstairs one we built before kids is 130 steps round-trip from our bed.
The fireplace is fake; I found the mantel under many coats of black paint in a trash pile while jogging (we have 12 working real ones, so it’s “ironic”) the “cast iron” surround is cheap pressed wood molding sprayed with auto undercoating, the mantle tile is leftovers, most of the trim is odd bits painted in a color called “red tricycle”; the tile is random rough slate from a HD sale, mixed to make a pattern; my wife painted the 1917 plaster walls in six shades of yellow to match a Makers Mark whiskey ad, the shutters and washstand top “overmantle” are both dump treats.
I’ll get the machines and laundry sink in this weekend and no more lugging baskets up and down stairs!

Here's the original basement laundry room now, with a set of used appliances. It's a great room, with a full bath behind, but just too far from the bedrooms. You can tell we don't use it as much as the one upstairs, it's clean!
lots of room to ride thunder!

very nice! post a few more pics of all those neat things you describe in the post.
And congragulations on the dump treats- anything is better if it has a story along with it, as far as i'm concerned.
