I was just trying to figure out the best system for storage in my garage overhead since the ceilings are high and the space is wasted. Looking online, I found many manufacturers of metal storage systems–including ONRAX–that are suspended from the ceiling. Has anyone installed these and have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

What is the roof/ceiling structure, truss or stick built?
Might make a difference in how much you can load up there.

<Might make a difference in how much you can load up thereYea, its amazing how little a 22' 2x8 with a knot on the bottom, in the middle holds....Dont ask....

Sorry, guys. As I held my 3 month old daughter and hoped she wouldn't start screaming (again), I neglected to list some of the particulars on the first post. The house is stick built. The garage ceiling is framed out with 2x10 joists, 16" o.c. with living space above. I'll estimate the joist span at 12' (there's a steel beam carrying in the middle of the garage). Anyway, it appears that the structure is fine for additional storage as long as I don't try to hang my car from the ceiling. Has anyone used the products that are available for overhead garage storage?
Thanks again!

saw a pic where a company makes an electric lift on rails that bolts to the wall ride your bike on the platform and it lifts it up out of the way... showed a full dresser on it... maybe my next project...." hmmm i can build one of those"..... my wife hates when i say that LOL

I've installed a product called Loft-It. It was basically some churched up angle iron and a nice wire grid. It looked like an erector set, but was definately well made. Unfortunately, I just did a search on the internet, and I couldn't find it. It may no longer exist.
A similar product is this Hyloft system:

This unit actually looks a little better than the Loft-It, but it doesn't look as strong.
There's always the option of building your own out of 2x4 and plywood also.

I went through this same scenario and ended up building my own loft storage. Mine is basically a grid (made from 2x2 lumber) sandwiched between 2 pieces of 1/4" ply glued and screwed to the grid on both sides. Strong, light, and does the job well for me.
Of course, I'm not storing spare engine blocks on mine, just larger bulky items.
