   Go to a paint store and read the labels.  Talk with a pro there.  Depending on what you are coating, paint can cover from 150 sf per gallon up to as much as 550.  What are you covering?  Weathered barn boards?  Cedar shingles?  Factory-primed clapboards, hung smooth-side out?  Are you going to spray it, brush it, or use a roller?  Gather all your facts and preferences, get a budget in mind, and go and talk it over.

   If you take the way my family had to figure it out. You take the total the paint supplier tells you and then you add one gallon for my sister to fool around with. Such as walking up the ladder behind Dad as he is painting the heves ( he's french) and paint the calves of 'is legs.   He can't run and he can't hide.

   I agree with Gene -

   Red the labels, then add 20%. I think the labels are a bit optomistic.

   Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?

   I can understand my Dad having to walk to school barefoot in waist deep snow. But how could it have been uphill both ways?

   I think you are talking drywall. The best answer is it depends . Sorry. Dont throw produce at me .

   If Im spraying texture , 200. Spraying walls and back rolling  1rst coat  250, 2ond coat 400.

   If Im rolling   previous painted walls ,  in bad shape , same color  300 1rst, 400 second .  Walls in good shape , 500 plus with thinned paint of some brands.  changing colors from dark to light , hahahaha .  from light to dark, you would be amazed !!!! I could go on and on .

   You should have over figgured if you figgure 300 sq ft per coat and are planning on two coats. This is the figgure I buy at if I bother to figgure. I can pretty much tell how much a house will take.
