My roof is epmd , black, and I wanted to paint it white to reflect heat and save energy costs.

There are several brands of latex based roofing products (Rapid Roof, Kool Roof, Resourse Technologies, etc.) that are white or light colored that claim energy savings. They are also rather expensive. Take a lot of energy savings to get a payback on painting a perfectly good roof that's not really designed to be painted. You might consider adding a light colored ballast gravel, which would extend the life of your roof from UV breakdown (if your situation allows it).
I invented latex.
i,ve got a couple rubber roofs and have wondered about scrubbing with broom,soap, water and the taking a airless and lightly coating it with white latex. not try and cover it heavy just a couple of light coats. i'll be interested to see if anyone has painted one. larry
That's pretty much what I want to do. Problem is, paints these days are no longer rubber-based,or at least they're hard to find, so I want one that'll hold up to heat and sunlight, maybe the ones greencu suggested...
EPDM is the acronym.

Anyway, any latex will paint it, but the roof coatins will last better 'cause they are formulated to have more resiliency. You don't want a real hard coat that has no give or when the rubber moves, the coating will check and peel, which may look worse that what you started with
