Paint grade decking in California

In terms of paintability I don’t think that the lumber grade (#1) matters. All grades from SelStr to Std&Btr should hold paint about the same. The first thing I’d do with any doug fir that’s going outside is soak it real good with Jasco’s Termin-8 to kill bugs and rot. The stuff is a green stain, so you’d need Killz following that.

What is wrong with Trex?
Granted, you can buy alot of paint jobs for what Trex costs Approx. $1.60 per ft.
But then I guess you could buy alot of Trex for what a good paint job costs also.
